Robert E. Cagley, 79, of Sioux City died Wednesday, June 25, 2003, at his residence following a lengthy illness.
Memorial services will be 10 a.m. Monday at First Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Alan Wicks officiating. Private graveside services will be at a later date. Visitation with the family present will be one hour prior to the service Monday at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.
Robert E. Cagley was born March 9, 1924, in Garfield Township near Kingsley, Iowa, the son of Brownley E. and Erma T. (Witt) Cagley. He was raised in the Kingsley area and graduated from Kingsley High School. He served in the U.S. Army, first being in the infantry and later with the Transportation Corps. Shortly following his discharge, he moved to Sioux City to find employment.
He married Julie V. Boni on June 21, 1951, at the Congregational Church in Kingsley. He had worked with Container Corporation for several years. Following that, he worked for 35 years with Dennis Supply Company, retiring from there in 1990.
He was a member of First Lutheran Church. Mr. Cagley was an avid reader and sports fan and enjoyed playing golf.
Survivors include his wife, Julie; a daughter, Susan Abernethy of Tucson, Ariz.; a brother, Jack Cagley and his wife, Dolores of Hastings, Neb.; two grandchildren, Tina Kape of Phoenix, Ariz., and Scott Abernethy of North Carolina; three great-grandchildren, Meagan and McKala Abernethy and Matthew Kape.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Don Cagley.
