Helen F. Burnett, 86, a lifelong Sioux City resident, died Monday, June 7, 2004, at her residence following a lengthy illness.

Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Calvary Lutheran Church, with the Rev. David Schoop officiating. Burial will be in Adaville Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m. with the Rev. Glen Rachuy officiating., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.

Helen was born May 27, 1918, in Sioux City, to Wilmer and Clara (Williams) Lounsbury. She attended rural grade school, East Junior High School and graduated from East High School.

She married Marvin H. Burnett on Feb. 19, 1941, in Sioux City. She was a licensed baby sitter and over the years was responsible for the care of many children. Marvin died April 27, 1979, in Sioux City.

She was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church and Martha Circle. She was also a member of Ridge School Women's Club.

She is survived by a son and his wife, Paul "Herbert" and Colette Burnett of Sioux City; a daughter and her husband, Jo Ann and Don Geddes of Hinton, Iowa; a brother, Kenneth Lounsbury of Castana, Iowa; a sister-in-law and her husband, Betty and Charles Pridie; three grandchildren, Sheila Hewitt, Kim Carney and Craig Barnes, all whom she raised; 11 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. She was also known as "Uncle Helen" to a special nephew, Don Lounsbury and his family.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and two grandchildren.
