SENEY, Iowa -- Kathy J. Burnett, 59, of Seney died suddenly Wednesday, Oct. 13, 2004, at her residence.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars, Iowa, with the Rev. Gary Landsness of St. John's Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will be in Seney Cemetery. Visitation will be after 3 p.m. today, with the family present after 3 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the funeral home.

Kathy Joan Rieken was born July 5, 1945, in Le Mars, to William and Viola (Weber) Rieken. She was raised on a farm near Westfield, Iowa, where she attended school through the fifth grade. She later completed her education in Le Mars.

She was united in marriage to Archie Port Sr. in Dec. 31, 1965. The couple were blessed with three children, Arch Jr., Terry and Kimberly. She later married James Burnett on Sept. 14, 1984, in Le Mars.

She had worked for Wells' Dairy in the North Ice Cream Plant for several years. She worked for Plymouth Manor Care Center for 20 years in the dietary department. After retiring from Plymouth Manor, she pursued a dream of hers and opened her own car detailing business at her home. She worked for several local car dealers detailing cars. For the last few years, she had worked part-time for Med-Tech in Orange City, Iowa and Bogenrief Studios in Merrill, Iowa.

She enjoyed fishing, playing cards and raising dogs and rabbits. Her greatest joy was her family and in later years, she loved spending time with her grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband, James Burnett of Seney; five children, Arch and Chris Port Jr. of North English, Iowa, Terry and Jennifer Port of Le Mars, Iowa, Kimberly and Scott Snyder of Alton, Iowa, Rusty Burnett of Le Mars and Troy Lindberg of Phoenix, Ariz.; 11 grandchildren, Makayla, Jenna, Zachary, Katlyn, Lindsey, Laura, Alex, Zackary, Cody, Madysen and Donovan; her mother, Viola Rieken of Seney; two sisters, Bettie Erickson of Seney and Janet and Russel Rosenbaum of Elk Point, S.D.; two brothers, Henry and Mary Rieken of Merrill, Iowa, and Dennis Rieken and Pam Lynch of Lake Placid, Fla.; and Jim's family, Jerry Burnett of Huntington Beach, Calif., Joe and Gwen Burnett of Oklahoma, John Burnett of Oregon, Jason Burnett of Texas, Jeff and Alice Burnett of California, Janice Moore of California and Jolene and Tony Perez of California.

She was preceded in death by her father, William Rieken; a son, James Burnett Jr.; a brother-in-law, Walter Erickson; a great-nephew, Brandon Erickson; and her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Eleanor and Clarence Burnett.

Pallbearers will be Scott Rieken, Bruce Erickson, Lee Kramer, B.J. Rieken, Bill Rieken and Bob Rieken.
