WATERBURY, Neb. -- Joseph R. "Ron" Burnight, 73, of Waterbury died Saturday, Oct. 13, 2001, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Jackson, Neb., with the Rev. Dick Whiteing officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 1 to 3 p.m. Tuesday at Becker-Hunt Funeral Home in South Sioux City. Visitation will continue from 4 to 8 p.m. at the church, with a Scriptural wake service at 7:30 p.m.

Mr. Burnight was born Nov. 19, 1927, in Akron, Iowa, the son of Edward and Rose (Neill) Burnight. He attended school in Akron and Sioux City. He married Virginia A. Tippery on May 20, 1950, in Dakota City. They moved to Waterbury in 1967. He worked as a forklift driver for Cargill Nutrena until retiring in 1990.

He was a member of the South Sioux City Eagles.

Survivors include his wife; three daughters and their husbands, Joann and Daniel Sullivan of Sioux Falls, Rose and Ray West of Wausa, Neb., and Bernice and Terry Bowman of Dakota City; two brothers, Patrick and his wife, Betty Burnight of North Sioux City, and Richard Burnight of Sioux City; and six grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, a sister and a granddaughter.

Pallbearers will be his nephews, Terry, Dennis and Brad Burnight, Herman Jenkins, Les and Lloyd Lutter.
