LE MARS, Iowa -- Edna M. "Jean" Detloff, 77, of Le Mars died Monday, Dec. 30, 2002, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. John's Lutheran Church, E.L.C.A., in Le Mars, with the Rev. Gary Landsness officiating. Burial will be in Resthaven Memory Gardens. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with the family present at 6 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars.
Edna "Jean" Mae Janssen was born Nov. 3, 1925, in Bakersfield, Calif., to Hy and Josephine Amanda (Porter) Janssen. She received her education in California.
She was united in marriage to Elmer Degner in 1940. The couple lived in Long Beach, Calif. In 1957, she married Alfred Detloff. The couple farmed north of Le Mars for several years. In 1972, they moved to Le Mars. Alfred passed away in September 1992. She made her home at the Regency Courte Assisted Living in South Sioux City since 2000.
While living in Le Mars, she worked Brentwood good Samaritan Center for many years and with VanderMeer Bakery. Her life's devotion was caring for and raising her family. She enjoyed embroidery work, cooking and canning.
Survivors include six children, Douglas and Jane Degner of Omaha, Neal and Colleen Degner of St. Charles, Mo., Richard and Nancy Degner of Ankeny, Iowa, Vicki and Doug Livermore of Sioux City, Barbara and Mike Newhouse of South Sioux City and Brenda Detloff-Kray and Rick Kray of Le Mars; three stepchildren, Pat and Tom Lammers of Dyersville, Iowa, Vicki and Tom Fischer of Le Mars, and Ronald and Karen Detloff of Le Mars; a daughter-in-law, Paulette Detloff of Le Mars; a brother, Howard Janssen of Gulf port, Miss.; 33 grandchildren, Chad, Patrick, Chris, Tom, Tonia, Deanna, Amber, Dan Jr., Emberly and Erik Degner, K.C. and Stephanie Livermore, Paul, Peter and Eric Newhouse, Audra, Dean, Renea, Lance, Lonnie, Stacey, Matt, Shane and Missy Detloff, Kylie Kray, Sheila Stahr, Julee Witte, Dawn, Tim and Terry Lammers, Alana Recker, Tammy Herbst and Bill Fischer; and 43 great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; a son, Daniel Degner; an infant son; and two stepsons, Robert and Randy Detloff.
Pallbearers will be Chad, Patrick, Chris and Tom Degner, K.C. Livermore and Paul Newhouse. Honorary pallbearers will be Sheila Stahr, Julee Witte, Tonia, Deanna and Amber Degner, Stephanie Livermore, Audra Detloff and Kylie Kray.
