HOLSTEIN, Iowa -- Rona Eldora Brandt, 81, of Holstein died Tuesday, March 19, 2002, at Good Samaritan Center in Holstein.
Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Holstein. Burial will be in Holstein Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at Barker Funeral Home in Holstein.
Rona was born March 30, 1920, to Chris and Agnes (Gries) Doehla in Holstein.
She married Harold "Shortie" Brandt on June 1, 1938, in Sioux City. They began their married life on the farm in the Holstein community. They were married 59 years.
Rona often talked about the times they would go out dancing and get home in time to do the morning chores. That was one her most cherished memories and favorite pastimes. Rona worked as a homemaker and a seamstress after they moved to California. Shortie and Rona retired in 1978 and moved to Reno, Nev. in 1981.
Rona was best known for her sense of humor and loved to play practical jokes. She was proud of her family and talked often about her children and grandchildren.
She is survived by her children and their spouses, Joyce and John Gossett of Las Vegas, Nev., Wendell and Marcia Brandt of Council Bluffs, Iowa, and Alan and Daryn Brandt of Reno, Nev.; nine grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Shortie; her parents; and a brother, Vernon.
