CHEROKEE, Iowa -- Kenneth E. Brandt, 69, of Cherokee died suddenly Monday, March 18, 2002, at his residence.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at First Church of Christ in Cherokee, with the Rev. Gregg Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. There will be a family prayer service at 10:15 a.m. Thursday at the church. Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today, with the family present 6:30 to 8 p.m., at Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee.

Kenneth was born June 29, 1932, in Quimby, Iowa, to Edwin and Delia (Kerns) Brandt. He graduated from Quimby High School in 1950.

He married Della Clark on Aug. 27, 1951, in Quimby. He and Jerald Clark operated Clark Tree Service from 1962 to 1964. He went to work for Quinn's Service Station in 1964, and in 1975, he and Gayle Farlee purchased the business from the Quinn family. They were partners in business until selling out in 1998. Since retiring from the service station, he had drove bus for the Siouxland Regional Transit System. He had been a resident of Cherokee since 1962, and prior to this he had lived in Hawthorne, Calif.

He was a member of Quimby United Methodist Church and was affiliated with the First Church of Christ. He was an avid fisherman.

He is survived by his wife, Della; two sons, Marc Brandt of Cherokee, and Kevin Brandt of Eagan, Minn.; six grandchildren, Keith Brandt, Christina Volkert, Matthew Brandt, Laura Brandt, Blake Brandt and Andrew Brandt; two great-grandchildren, Saber Leanne and Koy Brandt; three sisters, Nancy Harder and her husband, Freddie of Quimby, Caren Lewis and her husband, Michael of Marina Del Ray, Calif., and Janette Thomas of LaVista, Neb.; and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
