ALMA BECKER

MERRILL, Iowa – Alma Becker, 98, of Merrill died Saturday, April 7, 2001, at a Sioux City care center.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Merrill First United Methodist Church with the Reverend Sue Thomas officiating. Burial will be in Floyd Valley (Melbourne) Cemetery, rural Merrill. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. today, with the family present 6:30 to 8 p.m., at Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in LeMars, Iowa.

Miss Becker was born June 5, 1902, in Lincoln Township, rural Plymouth County, Iowa, the daughter of Joseph and Christina (Schneider) Becker. She moved to Washington Township near Merrill as a young child. She attended rural school and graduated from LeMars high school in 1924. She completed normal training at Iowa Teachers College, and taught rural school for 17 years. She then worked for Woodberry County Electric and also for the Plymouth County Superintendent of schools during the reorganization of rural schools in Plymouth County. She had been a resident of Sunrise Manor in Sioux City for the past three years.

She was a member of Merrill First United Methodist Church and had been a member of Merrill Melbourne United Methodist Church. She enjoyed her home and her flowers.

Survivors include a nephew and his wife, Gene and Grace Becker of Hinton; two nieces and their husbands, Janice and Harold Albert of LeMars, and Rae and Jim Nanninga of Fort Dodge.

She is preceded in death by her twin sister, Alice; a sister, Dorothea; a brother and his wife, Raymond J. and Marjorie Becker; and a nephew, David Becker.
