LE MARS, Iowa -- Martha Christine Sophie Cooper, 102, of LeMars died Sunday, April 20 5, 1999, at Plymouth Manor Care Center in LeMars.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at St. John's Lutheran Church, E.L.C.A., in LeMars, with the Reverend Gary Landsness officiating. Burial will be in Resthaven Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today at Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in LeMars.
Mrs. Cooper was born March 9, 1897, in rural Sioux County, Iowa, the daughter of William and Wilhelmina (Jacobs) Lehrman. She attended country school in Sherman Township.
She married James Earl Cooper on February 20, 1922, in LeMars. The couple lived in LeMars, where she was a homemaker. He died February 21, 1974. She entered Plymouth Manor Care Center in July 1994.
She was a member on St. John's Lutheran Church, E.L.C.A., Ladies Aid, Missionary Group and LeMars Senior Citizens Center. She enjoyed playing cards.
Survivors include two daughters, Ruth Lubben, of LeMars and Joyce and her husband, Donald Whittlesey, of Bella Vista, Ark.; five grandchildren, Diane Langstraat, James Lubben and Mark, Kirk and David Whittlesey; 10 great-grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; and a sister, Elnora Van Gelder, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
She was preceded in death by a great grandson; five brothers, Frank, William, Oscar, Harold and Lawrence Lehrman; and four sisters, Amelia Bremer, Rose Gibson, Evelyn Schmidt, and Carmen DeRaad.
Pallbearers will be James and David Lubben, James and Jeff Langstraat and Kirk and LeRoy Whittlesey.
