SHELDON, Iowa -- Jeanette S. (Gysbertsen) Brinkman, 86, of Sheldon passed away Friday, Jan. 31, 2003, at Northwest Iowa Health Center in Sheldon.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Sheldon, with the Rev. John McGuirk officiating. Burial will be in St. Patrick Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with the family present 6:30 to 8 p.m., a Catholic Daughters of America rosary at 7 p.m. followed by a Scripture wake service at 7:30 p.m., at Vander Ploeg Funeral Home in Sheldon.

Jeanette Susan Brinkman, the daughter of Jacob and Gertrude (Peters) Gysbertsen, was born April 5, 1916, on a farm in Sioux County near Maurice, Iowa. After a short time in Sioux County, she moved with her parents to a farm in Plymouth County, where she received her education at a country school. Jeanette graduated from Le Mars Public High School and earned her bachelor's degree in education from Westmar College in Le Mars.

She later worked toward attaining her master's degree in education. Her teaching career began in rural schools in Plymouth County. In 1959 she began teaching in the Sheldon Public School District. She retired from teaching after 43 years.

Jeanette was united in marriage to Lloyd C. Brinkman on Aug. 25, 1962, in Struble, Iowa. The couple made their home in Sheldon.

Jeanette had been a lifetime member of the Catholic church and a longtime member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, the Ladies Guild and Catholic Daughters of America. She was chairman of voting in Precinct 1 for several years. Aside from her love of teaching, she enjoyed being a homemaker, with baking bread and pies being her favorite tasks.

Jeanette leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Lloyd; two sons, Lyle and his wife, Sue Brinkman of Lexington, Ky., and Lowell and his wife, Sheri Brinkman of Omaha, Neb.; four grandchildren, Jennifer and her husband, Ben Durant and Chris and his wife, Kristi Brinkman, all of Lexington, Jeff and his wife, Michelle Ferzley of Phoenix, Ariz., and Jamie and her husband, Dariush Ghaffari of Omaha; three great-grandchildren, Matthew Durant, Joshua Ghaffari and Autumn Ferzley; a sister, Dora Keys of East Bend, N.C.; and a host of other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, John and Henry Gysbertsen; and four sisters, Nell Kuecker, Marie Richland, Pauline Hauser and Kathryn Steichen.
