BRIDE, BROWNMILLER, FOWLER

Lela P. Bride, 88, of Kingsley, Iowa, formerly of Sioux City, died Friday, Oct. 18, 2002, at Holy Spirit Retirement Home in Sioux City.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Kingsley, with the Rev. Thomas J. Topf officiating and the Rev. Gerald Hartz assisting. Burial will be in St. Michael's Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with a rosary at 4 p.m. and a Scripture service at 7:30 p.m., all at Earnest-Michaelson Funeral Home in Kingsley.

Lela was born July 10, 1914, in Pierson, Iowa, the daughter of James H. and Emma (Fowler) Brownmiller. She was raised in the Pierson/Kingsley area.

On June 18, 1931, she was united in marriage to William Bride. After their marriage, she and William made their home in Sioux City. She worked as bookkeeper for Bride Construction. Her husband died Feb. 24, 1991. After William's death, Lela moved to Kingsley where she lived until November 2000, when she moved to Holy Spirit Retirement Home in Sioux City.

She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Sioux City for more than 50 years and was a member of the Senior Citizens Center. Lela enjoyed bowling, crocheting, fishing, watching professional wrestling and other sports on TV and playing cards. She enjoyed her family and their activities.

Survivors include her two daughters, Linda Oldfather of Kennesaw, Ga., and Terry Sue Gosch of Sioux City; three sons, Jim Bride and his wife, Val of Moville, Iowa, Bill Bride and his wife, Marilyn of Sioux City, and Joe Bride and his wife, Lynne of Peachtree City, Ga.; 26 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.

She also was preceded in death by her parents and three daughters, Karen, Barbara and JoAnn.
