Gladys J. Jauer, 88, of Sioux City died Monday, Nov. 24, 2003, at a Sioux City hospital following a one and a half year illness.
Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel, with the Rev. Marvin Mueller of Trinity Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Graceland Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the funeral home.
Miss Jauer was born Nov. 4, 1915, in rural Hinton, Iowa, the daughter of Emil and Carrie (Pape) Jauer. She grew up in the Hinton area and graduated from Hinton High School. She graduated from Iowa State University, then taught for a few years. She went back to school at the University of Iowa and graduated as a registered nurse.
She began working as a nurse at St. Luke's Hospital in 1945 and did that for a few years before starting to teach in the St. Luke's Nursing Program. She taught at St. Luke's for many years, retiring in 1981.
She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Sioux City and the Garden Club. She was an avid painter and enjoyed making cookies and candy.
She is survived by a sister-in-law, Augusta Jauer of Hinton; a niece, Cherron Wick of West Des Moines; two nephews and their wives, Stanley and Vicki Jauer and Byron and Cindy Jauer, all of Hinton; and nine great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Allen Jauer.
