LE MARS, Iowa -- Michael Jasper, 48, of Le Mars died Saturday, Jan. 19, 2002, at Floyd Valley Hospital in Le Mars.

Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at First Reformed Church in Maurice, Iowa, with the Revs. Wayne Sneller and Mark Haverdink officiating. Burial will be prior to the service in West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City, Iowa. There will be a prayer service at 9:15 a.m. Tuesday at Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City. Visitation will begin at 4 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.

Michael Dean Jasper was born July 12, 1953, in Hawthorne, Calif., the son of Clarence and Betty Jean (Kleinhesselink) Jasper. In 1954 he and his family moved to Orange City. He graduated from Maurice-Orange City High School in 1971.

Most of his adult life he lived in the Hull, Iowa, area. Mike, or "Cotton Top," was a truck driver, owning and operating his own tractor. He could be easily recognized by the personal touch he gave his trucks. In August 1999, he became a resident of The Abbey in Le Mars.

Mr. Jasper was a member of First Reformed Church in Maurice. He enjoyed restoring and racing cars, boating and playing cards, especially with his friends at The Abbey.

Survivors include his parents, Clarence and Betty Jasper of Orange City; two sisters and their husbands, Janet Lee and Ken Budden of Maurice, and Laurie Joy and Roger Scheitler of Merrill, Iowa; a brother and his wife, Stacy Gene and Teresa Jasper of Alton, Iowa; eight nephews and nieces, Christopher Michael Budden and his wife, Lara, April Joy and her husband, Michael Niemeyer, Jessica Lee Scheitler, Justin Clare Scheitler, Sarah Jean Scheitler, Rebecca Lynn Jasper, Alyssa Kay Jasper and Trevor James Jasper; and a grand-nephew, Casey Gene Budden.

Memorials may be directed to diabetes research.
