KINGSLEY, Iowa -- Dean Bohle, 63, of Kingsley died unexpectedly Thursday, Jan. 23, 2003, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at United Methodist Church in Kingsley, with the Rev. Paul Evans officiating. Burial will be in Kingsley Cemetery. Visitation with the family present will be 3 to 6 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 3 p.m., at Rohde-Earnest Funeral Home in Kingsley.

Dean was born Oct. 13, 1939, at Correctionville, Iowa, the son of Willie and Lucille (Luckel) Bohle. He graduated from Pierson High School in Pierson, Iowa, in 1957 and attended Morningside College in Sioux City.

On March 19, 1961, he married Elaine Richards at Rock Branch, Iowa. After their marriage Dean and Elaine lived in Onawa, Iowa, where Dean operated heavy equipment in the construction of Interstate 29 and later worked for Chuck Grothaus operating heavy equipment. Dean and Elaine later purchased Chuck's business and have owned and operated Bohle Construction since 1970.

Dean was very involved with community activities and helping the community to grow in a positive manner. He was a member of United Methodist Church in Kingsley, where he served as chairman of the church board, belonged to the choir, and was a Promise Keeper. He was elected to the Kingsley City Council in 1979. In 2000 he was elected as mayor of Kingsley and also served as mayor pro-tem for Kingsley when Mayor Judson Henry died. Dean was chairman of the Plymouth County Landfill. He belonged to LICA and was past State President in 1982 and 1983 for Iowa Land Improvement Contractors Association. He was a member of the Kingsley Fire Department since 1973, served as a training officer for the fire department, belonged to the Kingsley Chamber of Commerce and the NCC Advisory Board for Heavy Equipment Program.

Dean was a devoted husband, father, son and grandpa who always had time to listen when someone needed to be heard. He enjoyed woodworking, making high chairs for his grandchildren, doing puzzles and mind-bogglers, playing checkers with Justin and spending time with his family. He played an important role in the building of the Kingsley Community Center and Fire Station, a new City Library and City Hall, initiating the City Water Tower Project and promoting the value of a strong educational system for the Kingsley-Pierson School System.

Survivors include his wife, Elaine Bohle of Kingsley; three sons and their wives, Rick and Laurie Bohle, Keith and Melanie Bohle and Scott and Stacy Bohle, all of Kingsley; a daughter and her husband, Debra and Michael Kraft of Kingsley; his mother, Lucille Bohle of Kingsley; six grandchildren, Justin Bohle, Kayla Bohle, Carter Bohle, Mitchell Bohle, Abbie Kraft and Emily Kraft; two brothers, Robert Bohle and his wife, Carole of Harrisonville, Mo., and Ronald Bohle and his wife, Marsha of Pierson, Iowa; a sister, Donna Harris and her husband, Ron of Sioux City; two aunts, Ruby Gernhart of Kingsley, and Opal Sand of Anthon, Iowa; a brother-in-law, Larry Richards and his wife, Karen of Charles City, Iowa; a sister-in-law, Linda Revis and her husband, Roger of Fremont, Neb; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Willie Bohle.
