HINTON, Iowa -- Doris Bogenrief, 84, of Hinton passed away Saturday, April 26, 2003, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Hinton United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Sara Malone officiating. Burial will be in Floyd Valley Cemetery, rural Hinton. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with the family present 6:30 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7:30 p.m., at Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars, Iowa. Visitation will resume one hour prior to the service Wednesday at the church.
Doris Irene Olson was born Nov. 1, 1918, near Smithland, Iowa, the daughter of Newell and Effa (Gunsolly) Olson. The family moved to Whiting, Iowa, where she was raised and educated. She graduated from Whiting High School in 1936. Prior to the marriage, she worked for the telephone company in Whiting.
On Feb. 4, 1939, she and Robert Lee Bogenrief were united in marriage in Onawa, Iowa. She worked as a secretary for Vogel Paint Company in Sioux City. She later worked for many years at St. Joseph's Hospital in Sioux City. Following a brief absence, she returned to Mercy Medical Center and worked in the Central Supply office.
She was a member of Hinton United Methodist Church. She volunteered her time as a first responder and sang with the Sweet Adelines. She belonged to a bowling league for many years and enjoyed playing cards. She also knitted, sewed and liked to work in her flower and vegetable gardens.
She will be lovingly remembered by her daughter and her husband, Trudy and Phillip Soule of Sioux City; three grandchildren, Shelly Soule, Scott Soule and his wife, Kim, and Shane Soule and his wife, Dawn, all of Sioux City; five great-grandchildren, Logan Hartnett, Colton, Marissa, Brandy and Brandon Soule, all of Sioux City; a sister, Evelyn Hall of Sloan, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert on Oct. 9, 1993; and two brothers, Raymond and Donald Olson.
