AKRON, Iowa -- Edmund E. Blum, 87, of Akron died Thursday, Oct. 9, 2003, in Akron.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. today at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Akron, with the Rev. Richard Zenk officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery, Akron. Arrangements are under the direction of Schroeder Funeral Home in Akron.
Mr. Blum was born July 3, 1916, in Akron, the son of Bernard and Agnes (Mc Ginnis) Blum. He graduated from Akron High School.
Mr. Blum married Virginia H. Parks on April 2, 1940, at the Cathedral in Sioux City. They farmed near Akron for many years until their retirement in November 1998.
He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church and the Farm Bureau. He served as a clerk for the Democratic Party of Plymouth County. In his free time, Mr. Blum loved to hunt, fish, camp, golf and play cribbage. Most of all, Mr. Blum loved farm life and spending time with family and friends.
Survivors include two daughters, Penny and her husband, Jim Harvey, and Iola and her husband, Robert L. Frerichs, all of Akron; two sisters-in-law, Vernice Blum of Sioux City, and Kathryn Blum of Remsen, Iowa; four grandsons, Brad Harvey and his wife, Chris, and great-granddaughters, Kelsie, Marissa, Monica and Natalie, Chad Harvey, Darin Frerichs and his wife, Jill, and Ryan Frerichs and his wife, Kate; two granddaughters, Sonya Eskra and her husband, Mark, and great-grandsons, Eric, Cory and Cal, and Nicole and her husband, Scott Workman; as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; four brothers, Francis, Bernell, Gilbert and Basil; and a sister, Bernice La Croix.
