LE MARS, Iowa -- Daniel L. Bickford, 51, of Le Mars died Tuesday, March 9, 2004, surrounded by his family at his residence following a courageous battle with cancer.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Le Mars, with the Rev. William Schreiber officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Le Mars. Visitation will be after 3 p.m. today, with a Gehlen School rosary at 4 p.m. and a Scriptural wake service at 7 p.m., at the church. Visitation will resume 9 a.m. until service time Friday at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Feuerstein Funeral Home in Le Mars.
Dan was born Feb. 18, 1953, in Fort Dodge, Iowa, the son of Marshall and Katherine (Halligan) Bickford. He grew up in Fort Dodge and graduated from St. Edmond's Catholic High School in 1971. He received his degree in business education from the University of Northern Iowa at Cedar Falls in 1976.
On June 19, 1976, he married Carolyn Hendricks at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Petersburg, Iowa. Following their marriage, the couple lived in Melvin, Iowa, for a couple of years, where he taught school and coached. They moved to Sioux City in 1978, when he began working for the Social Security Administration. In 1989, they moved to Le Mars to live and he continued working in Sioux City with the Social Security Administration.
He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, where he served as Eucharistic minister. He enjoyed golfing, playing cards and spending time with his family.
Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Bickford of Le Mars; two sons, Jay Bickford of Iowa City, Iowa, and Drew Bickford of Sioux City; his mother, Katherine Adkins of Fort Dodge; three sisters, Marcia and her husband, Tom Segreto of St. Charles, Ill., Debbie and her husband, Freddy Daniel of Ventura, Calif., and Susan Adams of Texas; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Marshall Bickford; and a nephew, Luke Lewin.
