LE MARS, Iowa -- Thomas Lyle Betsworth, 51, of Le Mars died unexpectedly Tuesday, March 5, 2002, at his residence.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery, Merrill, Iowa. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with the family present 5 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the funeral home.

Thomas Lyle Betsworth was born May 19, 1950, in Le Mars, the son of Maurice and Charlene (Utesch) Betsworth. He attended elementary school in Merrill and later attended high school in Le Mars. Following his education, Tom worked for Jack Gengler Construction.

He married Mary McInnis in Le Mars, where they made their home. He worked for Dale Reichle Construction and Plueger Construction in Le Mars. In 1988, he began his employment with the city of Le Mars in the street department, where he was presently working.

He will be lovingly remembered by his daughter, Lori Betsworth, her children, Crystal, Angela, Melissa and Vanessa and her four grandchildren, all of Omaha; a son and his wife, Jeff and Kate and their children, Jacob, Calissa and an unborn grandchild, all of Omaha; his mother, Charlene Betsworth of Merrill; seven brothers and sisters, Richard and his wife, Donna of Seneca, Ill., Charlotte Kasten and her husband, Bart of Simi Valley, Calif., Renee Glenn and her husband, Don of Merrill, Bette Fischer and her husband, Tom of Hinton, Iowa, Paul and his wife, Sue of Merrill, Kathy Neary and her husband, Jeff of Merrill, and Tammy Betsworth of Le Mars; and his mother-in-law, Florence McInnis of Le Mars.

He was preceded in death by his father, Maurice; a brother, Harlan; and a brother-in-law, Dale Fischer.
