LE MARS, Iowa - Gary Bennette, 43, of Le Mars died Saturday, April 10, 2004 at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars with the Rev. Leonard Waller officiating. Burial with military honors provided by the Wasmer American Legion Post No. 241 of Le Mars will be in Resthaven Memory Gardens Cemetery, Le Mars. Visitation will begin at 4 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Gary Bennette was born Nov. 19, 1960 in Sioux City, Iowa to Rivola and Donna (Taylor) Bennette. As a baby, Gary was dedicated in the Nazarene Faith in Sioux City. Gary was raised in the Davenport and Le Clair, Iowa areas. He received his education in the Davenport schools. Gary served his country in the United States Army from 1979 to 1986. For the last three years of his military career, Gary was stationed in Germany as a tank driver. After his honorable discharge, Gary attended Hamilton Business College in Davenport. He was schooled in several different computer applications.

Gary worked for a company that would contract to large corporations for their computer and clerical needs. He had the opportunity to travel with this company to several different states to work. Gary began his career with the Le Mars Daily Sentinel in 2000. In November of 2002, Gary was diagnosed with Lymphoma.

Gary was an avid fan of the Denver Broncos and he enjoyed watching NASCAR races and will be remembered for his wonderful sense of humor.

Survivors include his parents, Rivola and Donna Bennette of Le Mars; two sisters, Janet Williams and Bob Hicks of Davenport and Terrie LeAnne and her husband Craig Huttenhoff of Del Norte, Colo.; two brothers, Dennis Bennette and Mary Kehoe of Davenport and Daniel Bennette of Sioux Falls, S.D.; six nieces and nephews, Le Roy McFarland, Sarah Sanders, Jason Phelps, Melissa Williams, Miranda Lister and Vanessa Brock; two great-nieces and four great-nephews; and his aunts and uncles, George and Virginia Taylor of Sioux City, Betty and David Lindsey of Springfield, Mo., Jean and Ron Holland and June Campbell all of Dallas, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents, George and Thelma Taylor and David and Beulah Bennette.
