Roanoke G. Bell, 82, of Sioux City died Thursday, Feb. 28, 2002, following a lengthy illness.
Services were held Saturday, March 2, at Christy-Smith Morningside Chapel where the Rev. Stephen S. Niles officiated. Burial was in Memorial Cemetery in Le Mars, Iowa.
Mrs. Bell was born July 6, 1919, in Somerset, Kan., the daughter of Jesse and Anna (Hildebrandt) Thompson. She attended school in Somerset. She married Peter Bell on Nov. 23, 1937, in Le Mars. He died Feb. 1, 1985. She moved to Sioux City in 1949, and had been a resident ever since. She was employed at St. Joseph's Hospital, Zenith Corporation, the Battery Factory and Aalfs Manufacturing, all in Sioux City.
She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in South Sioux City. She enjoyed the Senior Center, her flowers and sewing.
Survivors include a son, David Bell of Arlington, Ky.; a daughter, Janice Taylor of Sioux City; a sister, Posie Picus of Wyoming; a brother, Rex Thompson of Arizona; a granddaughter, Sarah Bell and her special friend, Dustin McDonald of Sioux City; a grandson and his wife, Rolin and Laurie Taylor of Sioux City; and four great-grandchildren, Erica and Zachary Taylor, and Lathan and Shelby McDonald.
She also was preceded in death by her parents.
