SERGEANT BLUFF -- Sheryl J. Belfrage, 49, of Sergeant Bluff, formerly of Le Mars, Iowa, died Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2005, at a Sioux City hospital following a lengthy battle with cancer.

Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Community United Methodist Church in Sergeant Bluff. Burial will be in Woodbury Township Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Waterbury Funeral Service in Sergeant Bluff.

Sheryl was born Feb. 2, 1955, in Le Mars, Iowa, the daughter of Glenn and Darlene (Plueger) Gronemeyer. She attended Le Mars Community High School. She later attended college at Westmar University in Le Mars, where she earned her degree in secondary education. She moved to Sergeant Bluff in 1977, where she had lived since. In Sergeant Bluff, she taught language arts at Sergeant Bluff-Luton Middle School for 25 years.

She was married to Kent Behr of DeWitt, Iowa, from 1974 to 1989. In 1992, she then married Winston Belfrage of Sergeant Bluff.

She was an active member of the Community United Methodist Church, where she enjoyed being a part of the choir. She also was a member of the Writer's Club, the Red Hat Society, the national Education Association, International Reading Association and served as an officer in the DWBH Club. She also was certified with middle school endorsements in Reading and English.

She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, daughter and sister, that will be greatly missed. She enjoyed gardening at her farmhouse in the country. She also loved spending time with her husband and family doing all of the wonderful things she loved. Her passion for teaching and touching young lives gave her the greatest satisfaction and enjoyment.

She is survived by her husband, Winston; three children and their spouses, Korey and Wendy Behr, Kyle and Shelley Behr and Brittni and Chad Buffum, all of Sioux City; five grandchildren, Jessi Behr, Trenton Behr, Shelby Stewart, Kameron Behr and Taylor Behr; her mother, Darlene Gronemeyer of Le Mars, Iowa; two brothers, Greg Gronemeyer and Rick Gronemeyer, both of Bartlesville, Okla.; a sister, Barb Schuler of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and two nephews and a niece.

She was preceded in death by her father, Glenn Gronemeyer; and her grandparents, Fred and Laura Plueger and William and Evelyn Gronemeyer.
