LE MARS, Iowa – Irene Emily Perry, 83, of LeMars died unexpectedly Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2000, at her residence.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church in LeMars, with the Rev. Ed Frank officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be after 3 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. at Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in LeMars.

Mrs. Perry was born Oct. 25, 1917, in Garfield Township, rural Kingsley, Iowa, the daughter of William and Mabel (Forbes) Oleson. She was baptized and confirmed in the Methodist faith. She was raised on the farm and attended country school.

She graduated from Kingsley High School in 1934. She attended Western Union College in LeMars, where she received her teaching certificate. She taught school in Garfield Township (sic-Henry Township), Merrill, Iowa, and for 10 years at Franklin Elementary in LeMars until 1948.

She married Clifford Perry on June 6, 1948, in LeMars. The couple farmed near Seney, Iowa, for 34 years, retiring to LeMars in 1982. The couple would winter in the South.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church and former member of Seney United Methodist Women. She enjoyed china painting and oil painting.

Survivors include her husband; a brother-in-law, Bert Henley of Mount Vernon, Iowa; two sisters-in-law, Katherine Oelson of Royal, Iowa, and Marjorie Perry, of LeMars; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Donald Oleson; and a sister, Audrey Henley.

Pallbearers will be Roland and Mike Detloff, Joe Schroeder, Darrel Vanetta, Don Fulton and Ed Downing.
