AKRON, Iowa -- Charles V. Reich, 71, of Akron died Sunday, March 30, 2003, at his residence.

Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Grace Lutheran Church in Le Mars, Iowa, with the Rev. Larry Fett officiating. Burial will be in Resthaven Memory Gardens, with military rites conducted by American Legion Albert E. Hoschler Post 186 of Akron. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 6 p.m., at Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars.

Charles Vincent Reich was born Oct. 6, 1931, on the family farm near Sioux City, to Carl J. and Hattie H. (Briese) Reich. He was born baptized and confirmed at Grace Lutheran Church in Le Mars. He attended country school and graduated from Akron High School in 1951. Following high school, he served his country in the U.S. Air Force for four years. He had also served with the Iowa Air National Guard, 185th Fighter Wing in Sioux City for several years. He retired after 20 years of service to the military. He farmed in Portland Township from 1955 until his death.

He enjoyed spending time with his son, Charles, and restoring antique John Deere tractors.

Survivors include a son, Charles James Carl Reich of Holstein, Iowa; two brothers, Rolland Reich of Lincoln, Neb., and Lawrence Reich and his wife, Colleen, of Sioux City; four sisters, Alice Age of Sioux City, Helen Kenowith of Le Mars, Iowa, Dorothy DeYoung of Le Mars and Shirley and her husband, Chester Mesner, of Le Mars; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; six brothers, Walter, Irwin, Arthur, Robert, Eugene and Raymond in infancy; and a sister, Elsie in infancy.

Pallbearers will be Roger Frerichs, Kenneth Taylor, Joe DeYoung, Dennis Lubben, Stan Frerichs and Henry Bader.
