LE MARS, Iowa -- Aaron Denniston, 88, of Le Mars died Sunday, July 21, 2002, the hospital in Sioux Center, Iowa.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Seney United Methodist Church in Seney, Iowa, with the Rev. Tom Shinkle officiating. Burial will be in Resthaven Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars.
Aaron Robbins Denniston was born Oct. 1, 1913, in Moorhead, Minn., to Jefferson and Leslie (Robbins) Denniston. As a baby, the family moved to Staples, Minn. He attended school in Clarissa, Minn. Following school, he began farming as a young man.
He was united in marriage to Goldie Schultz on July 3, 1936, at her parents' home in Merrill, Iowa. The couple moved to a farm near Merrill in 1944. He continued to farm until 1956. He later worked for Westmar College in Le Mars until his retirement in 1985, after 21 years of service.
He enjoyed raising horses and sheep. He attended the Merrill-Stanton Evangelical United Brethren Church until 1971 and later joined the Seney United Methodist Church. He had served as a trustee and usher at the Seney church for many years. In 1970, the couple, together, built their present home.
Survivors include his wife, Goldie of Le Mars; four children and their spouses, Larry and Angie Denniston of Virginia Beach, Va., Gary and Judy Denniston of Indianola, Iowa, Judy and Dave Hawkins of Orange City, Iowa, and Don and Jeri Denniston of San Angelo, Texas; three brothers and their wives, Darrell and Charolette Denniston of Washington, Lynn and Barbara Denniston of Washington, and Dexter and Virginia Denniston of Minneapolis; two sisters, Hope and her husband, Durwood Yager of Washington, and Helen Rotter of Washington; 10 grandchildren, Dale, Danny, Mark, Laurie, Nicholas and Barbra Denniston, Bonnie Klein, Roma Lancaster, Tammy Popken and Curtis Hawkins; 12 great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Norma Denniston; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Donald and James Denniston; two sisters, Joyce Denniston and Thelma Bass; a brother-in-law, Les Bass; a daughter-in-law, Louise Denniston; and a great-granddaughter, Samantha Hawkins.
Pallbearers will be Curt Hawkins, Mark, Dale and Nicholas Denniston, Matt Lancaster and Alex Popken.
