CLARENCE B. BRUNKEN
Clarence B. Brunken, 79, of LeMars, died Sunday, June 2, 1996, at Brentwood Good Samaritan Center in LeMars.
Clarence B. Brunken was born April 26, 1917, to Herman and Mary (Lubben) Brunke on the family farm in Grant Township, rural Plymouth County. He was baptized May 20, 1917, at Christ Lutheran Chruch, Grant Township and confirmed March 20, 1932, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in LeMars. He received his education in a country school in Elgin Township, rural Plymouth County. He married Irene Heien on Sept. 25, 1941, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in LeMars. They farmed southeast of LeMars for many years and in 1965 moved to LeMars where Clarence became a home builder until his retirement in 1982.
He was an active member of his church for over 60 years. He had also served as a director for the German Farmers Mutual Insurance Company of Sioux Center for 21 years and had served on the LeMars Planning and Zoning Commission for several years. He enjoyed dancing, playing cards, fishing and drawing blueprints for homes.
Survivors include his wife, Irene, of LeMars; two daughters, Dianne and Melvin Baack of LeMars and Donna and Don Kniffen of Lennox, S.D.; five grandchildren, Carolyn Baack, Brad Baack, Laura Donohue, Mitchell Kniffen and Thomas Kniffen; six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Esther Renken and her husband, Ray Renken, of LeMars and Marian Schmidt of LeMars; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Norman Brunken.
Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at St. John’s Lutheran Church, ELCA, LeMars with the Rev. David Kramer officiating. Burial will be in Resthaven Memory Gardens Cemetery. Friends may call after 2 p.m. today (Tuesday) at the Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home, LeMars. There will be a prayer service at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
