JOHN BATCHELDER

John A. Batchelder, 73, Route 1, Sioux City, died Thursday morning at a Sioux City Hospital of the injuries suffered in a car-truck collision Tuesday afternoon at W. 28th St. and Hamilton Blvd., Sioux City.

Mr. Batchelder had been in “critical” condition since the car he was driving was in collision with a lumber company truck driven by George Cormony, 31, Sioux City.

Mr. Cormony was termed in “good” condition Thursday night at St. Luke's Medical center east, Sioux City.

The death was the 16th traffic fatality in Sioux City this year compared with 11 a year ago at this time, according to police records.

Funeral services for Mr. Batchelder will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Dow funeral home at Hawarden. Rev. Paul H. Heath of the First United Methodist Church in Sioux City will officiate. Burial will be in Resthaven Cemetery in LeMars. [1968].

Military rites will be conducted by members of Twin Oaks post 254, American Legion, Hawarden.

Mr. Batchelder was born September 19, 1895, in Union County, South Dakota. He moved to Sioux City in 1953. He married Bertha Kehn June 19, 1927, at Burke, South Dakota. She died in 1932. He was a veteran of World War I.

Survivors are a sister, Mrs. Winnie Matson, of Omaha; a brother, Quintin Nienkerk, of Lakeland, Florida; a half-brother, Emil Anderson of Hawarden; three half sisters, Mrs. Lloyd Keehn of Hawarden, Mrs. Raymond Burick of Wilmington, Calif., and Violet Anderson, of Sioux City.
