David P. Stock, 60, of Le Mars, died Monday, Sept. 26, 2005 at his home in Le Mars.

David Paul Stock was born July 16, 1945, at Emmetsburg, the son of the Rev. William and Lillian (Hacker) Stock. He attended school near Livermore. In the early 1960s, David joined the Iowa National Guard. He was united in marriage to Janet Johnson on Aug. 20, 1966, at Huxley. The couple moved to Le Mars in 1968 when he began working for Larson Printing in Sioux City.

In 1970, he began working for the Le Mars Police Department as a patrol officer. He later became a deputy sheriff for Plymouth County and in 1978 was elected sheriff, serving in that capacity for 12 years. Following his 20-year career in law enforcement, he went to work for Wells' Dairy at the North Plant and later in the dry warehouse until his retirement in 2001.

David also was very passionate about representing Vision for Life products, a natural way to a healthy life.

He enjoyed wood working, fishing, and hunting. In earlier years he enjoyed racing cars at Collins Field in Le Mars. His family was very important to him; especially spending time with his children and grandchildren.

He was a member of Cornerstone World Outreach in Sioux City and had been a longtime member of Grace Lutheran Church in Le Mars where he had been an elder, trustee, Sunday school teacher and an usher for many years.

Survivors include his wife of 39 years, Janet of Le Mars; three children, Jason and his wife, Julie Stock of Remsen, Justin and his wife, Sara Stock of Akron, and Jayne and her husband, Jonathan DeGroot of Remsen; eight grandchildren, Taylor Stock, Austen Stock, Jesse DeGroot, Sydney Stock, Joel DeGroot, Skylar Stock, Jerrica DeGroot, and David J. Stock; a brother, Kenneth and his wife, Janet Stock of Ankeny; two sisters, Esther and her husband. Jim Uden of Des Moines, and Myra and her husband, Keith Taylor of Amana; in-laws, John Johnson of Ankeny, Joan and Delmar Nelson of Alleman, Janel and Charles Newman of Lynnwood, Wash., Jackie and Jim Mars of West Des Moines; many nieces, nephews, and friends.

David was preceded in death by his parents, the Rev. William and Lillian (Hacker) Stock; a sister, Catherine Pevestorf; a nephew, Jeff Plummer; and two nieces, Sandy Zirtzman and Holly Mars.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the Cornerstone World Outreach (6000 East Gordon Drive, Sioux City) with the Rev. Larry Gordon officiating. Interment will be at 1 p.m. in Resthaven Memory Gardens Cemetery, rural Le Mars. Visitation will be after 3 p.m. Thursday at the Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars with the family present to greet friends after 5 p.m. followed by a 7 p.m. prayer service.

Pallbearers will be Kent Stock, Lee Stock, Dustin Mars, Joel Uden, Jeff Uden, Kevin Pevestorf, Kendall Pevestorf, and Tony Nelson.

Honorary pallbearers will be Mike Van Otterloo, Craig Bartolozzi, Lynn Steckelberg, Jeff Te Brink, Dan Moser, Dick Moritz, and Roger Langstraat.
