LeMars Sentinel, Tuesday, August 9, 2005Raymond H. Tapper, 86, of Le Mars, died Friday, Aug. 5, 2005. at the Plymouth Manor Care Center in Le Mars.
Raymond H. Tapper was born Oct. 7, 1918, in Akron, the son of John and Lillian (Kallsen) Tapper. Raymond was baptized in the Lutheran faith on Nov. 27, 1918, and confirmed at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Preston Township. He attended country schools in Preston and Johnson Townships. Raymond was united in marriage to Arlene Zinn on Jan. 24, 1948, at Bethel Lutheran Church at Sutherland. Raymond worked as a hired-man. After the death of his father in 1941, he worked the family farm until his retirement in 1981. Raymond and Arlene continued to live on the farm until 1988 when they moved to Le Mars.
Raymond had been a longtime member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Preston Township where he had served the church on the council, treasurer, and other committees as needed. In 1991, they became members of St. John's Lutheran Church in Le Mars. He served on the board of directors and sold insurance for German Farmers Mutual in Sioux Center for over 30 years. Raymond was very honored to have been asked to serve as a pallbearer over 60 times for friends and relatives.
Raymond loved the farming lifestyle and always maintained his passion for the family farm. He also enjoyed gardening and woodworking.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Arlene of Le Mars; two children, Gaylen and his wife, Mary Jane Tapper of Akron and Arla Rae and her husband, Joel "Tony" Bormann of Cumberland, Wis.; four grandsons, Mike Tapper, T.J. Tapper, Nick Bormann, and Scott Bormann; a brother, Orville and his wife, Doloris Tapper of Marcus; a sister, Dorothy and her husband, Orlin Hein of Hartley; and several nieces, nephews and friends.
Raymond was preceded in death by his parents, John and Lillian (Kallsen) Tapper; a brother, Lester Tapper; and two nephews, Bruce Hein and John Tapper.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. John's Lutheran Church in Le Mars with the Rev. Gary Landsness officiating. Interment will be in Resthaven Memory Gardens, rural Le Mars. Visitations will be after 3 p.m. today (Monday) at the Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars with the family present to greet friends after 6 p.m. followed by a 7 p.m. prayer service at the funeral home. Visitations will continue Tuesday morning at the church from 9:30 a.m. until service time.
Pallbearers will be Mike Tapper, T.J. Tapper, Nick Bormann, Scott Bormann, Kevin Tapper and Kyle Tapper.
