Celeste L. Stahmer, 97, of Le Mars, died Monday, June 6, 2005, at Good Samaritan Village, Brentwood Center in Le Mars.

Celeste Louise Stahmer was born Aug. 12, 1907, in Grand Mound, Iowa, the only child of Edward and Alvina (Evert) Jensen. She was baptized on Sept. 22, 1907 and confirmed on June 4, 1922. She graduated from Grand Mound High School and later attended Iowa State College in Ames.

On June 28, 1928, Celeste and Rev. Henry D. Stahmer were united in marriage at Trinity Lutheran Church in Davenport. The couple served churches in Davenport, Fairville, Hinton, Le Mars, Churdan and Fort Dodge. Rev. Stahmer died Nov. 1, 1966.

Celsete moved to Le Mars in 1967. She served as craft director at Brentwood Good Samaritan Center for 15 years. From 1988 to 1998 she served as lay visitor at St. John's Lutheran Church. In 1998, Celeste moved to Park Place Estates in Le Mars. She later became a resident at Brentwood Good Samaritan Center on July 28, 2000.

She was an active member of St. John's Lutheran Church and WELCA. Celeste loved crafts and knitted hundreds of mittens that she donated to needy children.

Survivors include her two daughters, Ruth Peters of Le Mars and Eunice Easton and her husband Joe of Ames; three sons, Paul Stahmer of Le Mars, Philip Stahmer and his wife Roxanne and Nathan Stahmer and his wife, Gloria Stahmer all of Phoenix, Ariz.; 13 grandchildren Rev. Dean and Janice Easton of Canadensis, Pa., David and Joan Easton of Cedar Falls, Amy Kruse of Ames, Dan and Trisha Easton of Bagley, Beth and Bill Jackson of Des Moines, Alan Stahmer of Ft. Collins, Colo., Patricia and Dwight Harris of Rochester, Minn., Mark Peters and Jim and Kay Peters of Le Mars, Jennifer and Rob St. Peter of Yuma, Ariz., Michael Stahmer of San Diego, Calif., Stephannie and Andy Gersten of New York, N.Y. and Zachary Stahmer of Phoenix, Ariz.; 11 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Rev. Henry D. Stahmer, a son-in-law Don Peters; a daughter-in-law, Marilyn Stahmer; and a granddaughter, Janet Hoffman and her child.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at St. John's Lutheran Church in Le Mars. The Rev. Gary Landsness will officiate. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memory Gardens, rural Le Mars. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Mauer -- Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars with the family present from 5 to 8 p.m. There will also be one hour of visitation at the church prior to the funeral.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Rev. David Kramer, Virginia Brangwin, Evelyn Pecks, David Dillman and Daniel Gildemeister.
