LeMars Sentinel, Friday, July 16, 2004Raymond J. Stabe, 94, of Le Mars, died Wednesday, July 14, 2004, at Plymouth Manor Care Center in Le Mars.
Raymond J. Stabe was born Aug. 15, 1909, in rural Le Mars, the son of Paul and Clara (Neumann) Stabe. He was raised in the Le Mars area and married Evelyn C. Kounkel in March 1932. He was employed with Plymouth County from 1938 until 1950, during which time he operated a motor grader. In 1950, he went to work for a private contractor operating a motor grader until hs retirement in 1975.
He served in the U.S. Army from March 31, 1944, until his honorable discharge on Dec. 11, 1945. During this time, he was stationed at different locations in the Philippine Islands and Japan.
He married Mabel Dixon in 1982.
Raymond was a member of the Le Mars American Legion.
Survivors include a son, Gene Stabe and his wife, Diane, of Akron; a daughter, Janice Stabe of Merrill; a stepson, Gordon Dixon and his wife, Karin, of Houston, Texas; a daughter-in-law, Patty Stabe of Le Mars; one brother, Leslie Long of California; one sister, Helen Schossow of Albuquerque, N.M.; 11 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wives, Evelyn and Mabel; one son, Bill; one grandson, Brett, and two brothers, Milton and Clifford.
Funeral services were at 10:30 a.m. today (Monday) at Grace Lutheran Church in Le Mars with the Rev. Larry Fett officiating. Burial was in Resthaven Cemetery, rural Le Mars, with graveside military honors. Visitation was after 2 p.m. Sunday, with the family present from 5 to 7 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., all at the Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home.
