Irene M. MaComb, 86, of Le Mars, died suddenly on Thursday, April 28, 2005, at Floyd Valley Hospital in Le Mars. Irene Martha Henrietta Riedemann was born Dec. 14, 1918, in Paullina, the daughter of August and Emma (Roth) Riedemann. Irene was baptized on Jan. 10, 1919, in Paullina and confirmed April 9, 1933, at Trinity Lutheran Church near Marcus. She received her education in schools at Paullina and Marcus.

Irene was united in marriage to Robert W. MaComb of Cleghorn on June 26, 1938, at Yankton, S.D. Robert and Irene farmed near Brookings, S.D., and later near Flandreau, S.D., before moving to a farm near Lake Benton, Minn., and then to a farm near Pipestone, Minn. In 1961, they moved to Le Mars to operate the Texaco station until 1964. Irene had worked at the Super Value grocery store in Le Mars for 18 years.

Irene enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She always enjoyed going to birthday parties and visiting with her family. She enjoyed embroidery and working on several family genealogies. She was a member of the Presbyterian United Church of Christ having served as a Deacon for many years. Her faith was an important part of her life. Irene enjoyed volunteering at the church whenever needed. In 1978 and again in 1995, Irene was honored as "Volunteer of the Year" at The Abbey of Le Mars.

Irene is survived by her three children, Wendell MaComb of Schleswig, Ned and his wife, Wanda MaComb of Le Mars, and JoAnn Petry of Le Mars; six grandchildren, John and Nicole MaComb, Scott and Jean MaComb, Tamara and Robert Singer, Cory and Angela MaComb, Laura and Darwin Betsworth, and Sarah and James Landis; 19 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Bernice Splitberger of Wyoming and Mildred Steenhoven of Flandreau, S.D.; two brothers, Burnell and Phyllis Riedemann of Cherokee and Donald and Eleanor Riedemann of Grand Meadow, Minn.; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, August and Emma (Roth) Riedemann; her husband of 55 years, Robert in 1993; a brother, Ferdinand Riedemann; a son-in-law, Charles Petry; and a great-granddaughter, Emily MaComb.

Funeral services were at 10:30 a.m. today (Monday) at the Presbyterian United Church of Christ with the Rev. Dean Goebel officiating. Interment will be in Resthaven Memory Gardens. Visitation was after 3 p.m. Sunday at the Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars, with the family present after 6 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m. Visitation continued at the church Monday morning from 9:30 a.m. to service time.

Pallbearers were John MaComb, Scott MaComb, Bob Singer, Cory MaComb, Darwin Betsworth and Jim Landis.
