Jerry Frerichs, 77, of Le Mars, died Sunday, July 27, 2003. at his residence following a lengthy illness.

Gerald Carl Frerichs was born Oct. 28, 1925, on a farm near Akron, the son of Claus and Minnie (Satthoff) Frerichs. He attended country school in Plymouth County and high school in Le Mars. Jerry enlisted in the United States Army on April 6, 1945. He served overseas in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater as a light truck driver. He attained the rank of Sergeant prior to his honorable discharge on Dec. 29, 1946.

Jerry returned to Le Mars following the war and began his employment with Well's Dairy. On Sept. 25, 1950, Jerry and Donna Niehus were united in marriage at St. James Catholic Church in Le Mars.

He retired from Wells Dairy on May 31, 1988.

Survivors include his wife, Donna of Le Mars; four daughters, Bev MacEwan and her husband, Doug, of Emmaus, Pa., Barb Sitzmann and her husband, Jim, of Le Mars, Karen Langel and her husband, Paul, of Le Mars, and Kristi Petersen and her husband, Ryan, of North, Va.; five sons, Dave and his wife, Becky, of Des Moines, Mark and his wife, Shari, of Le Mars, Brian and his wife, Tracy, of Hinton,, Scott and his wife, Lori, of New Hampton and Gary of Le Mars; 26 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ardyth Fischer and her husband, Bernie of Helena, Mont., and Carol Rowe and her husband, Charlie of Lake Park; and three brothers. George and his wife, Kathy, of Le Mars, Stan and his wife, Marlys, of Le Mars, and Leon of Anaheim, Calif.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Tom on Feb. 2, 1987; and a brother, Dick Frerichs.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. John's Lutheran Church in Le Mars with the Rev. Gary Landsness officiating. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memory Gardens Cemetery in Le Mars. The Wasmer Post #241 of the American Legion in Le Mars will provide graveside military honors. Visitation will begin at 4 p.m. Wednesday at the Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home. The family will be present from 5 to 8 p.m. and there will be a prayer service at 7 p.m. There will also be one hour of visitation on Thursday at the church prior to the funeral service.
