Alfred Beeck, 85, of Le Mars, died suddenly, Monday, Nov. 8, 2004, at his residence in Le Mars.

Alfred Chris Beeck was born Nov. 30, 1918, on the family farm in Johnson Township, rural Plymouth County, the son of Gustav and Christina (Mangelson) Beeck. Alfred was baptized and confirmed at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Preston Township. He attended country school in Preston Township.

Alfred was united in marriage to Lucille Larsen on Aug. 10, 1940, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Le Mars. Alfred and Lucille farmed before moving to Sioux City where Alfred worked at the Swift packinghouse. He worked for Clark Construction in Sioux City from 1958 to 1961. Alfred and Lucille owned and operated a bar in West Le Mars for several years. In December 1961, Alfred began his 21-year career as a maintainer operator with Plymouth County, taking care of the county roads near Brunsville.

Alfred was a 35-year member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles, Aerie No. 1381 of Le Mars, and throughout the years had held nearly every elected office of the organization. He enjoyed traveling to the different Eagles' conventions and meetings throughout the United States. He loved baseball, especially the Minnesota Twins, he enjoyed the opportunities to attend the games with his sons.

Survivors include his six children, Jerry Beeck of Lincoln, Neb., Howard and Patricia Beeck of Lincoln, Belinda and Dale Rinnels of Le Mars, Alfred Jr. and Susan Beeck of Lincoln, Darrell Beeck of Lincoln and James and Nitha Beeck of Lincoln; 20 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Gustav and Christina (Mangelson) Beeck; his wife Lucille Beeck in 1989; a brother, Henry Beeck; and six sisters, Martha Ludwigs, Frieda Beitelspacher, Clara Molzen, Anne Erks, Marie Plueger and Margaret Beeck in infancy.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at St. John's Lutheran Church, E.L.C.A. in Le Mars with the Rev. Gary Landsness officiating. Interment will be in Resthaven Memory Gardens Cemetery, rural Le Mars. Visitation will be after 3 p.m. today (Thursday) at the Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars with the family present to greet friends after 7 p.m. Thursday evening at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Jerry Beeck Jr., Alex Beeck, Justin Beeck, Michael Ladenthin, Jonathan Beeck, and Christopher Beeck. Honorary pallbearers will be Dan Mairose and Jim Burnett.
