Dorothy L. Ashmore, 82, of Le Mars, died Thursday, Aug. 3, 2006, at The Abbey of Le Mars after a long and courageous illness.

Dorothy Louise Blaue was born May 27, 1924, in Sutherland, the daughter of Erwin and Laura (Tuschoff) Blaue. Dorothy moved to Le Mars while she was in the seventh grade and later graduated from Le Mars Central High School in May 1942. Following high school she moved to California and attended Glendale Community College, while working for Lockheed Aircraft during World War II.

Dorothy was united in marriage to Norman Ashmore on April 16, 1948, in Correctionville. The couple settled in Sioux City where Dorothy worked for the American Popcorn Co. for seven years. In 1956 they made their home in Le Mars where Dorothy worked for Hilger Accounting for 12 years and later worked for Plymouth Farmers Mutual Insurance Company 27 years and for 10 years was the assistant secretary.

Dorothy was a longtime member of First United Methodist Church in Le Mars.

Dorothy had been an active member of the Bulldog Booster Club for many years, were she often volunteered selling tickets at football and basketball games. Dorothy enjoyed watching her sons play high school sports and later when they played fast pitch softball.

Survivors include her two sons, Donald and his wife Vicky Ashmore of Omaha, Neb., and Joe Ashmore of Le Mars; three grandsons: Grant, Drew, and Donnie Ashmore; three step-grandchildren: David, Tracy, and Doug Ashmore; and four great-grandsons. Dorothy will also be greatly missed by other relatives and friends including her sister and brother-in-law, Donna and Doug Pullen of Le Mars; step-mother, Alwayne Klemme; a sister-in-law, Swanna Blaue; and friends, Connie and Ken Plueger, Jerry and Barb Brock, Lauris Dudgeon, and Ramona Ashmore.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Erwin and Laura (Tuschoff) Blaue; her husband Norman Ashmore in 1968; two sisters, Michelle in infancy and Marjorie Corning; and a brother, Vernon Blaue.

Funeral services were 1 p.m. Saturday at the United Methodist Church of Le Mars with the Rev. Jason Larson officiating. Interment was in Resthaven Memory Gardens Cemetery, rural Le Mars. Visitation was after 10 a.m. Saturday morning at the church until service time. The Carlsen Funeral Home of Le Mars assisted the family with arrangements.

Pallbearers were Grant Ashmore, Drew Ashmore, Donnie Ashmore, Ken Plueger, Jerry Brock, and Ron Hargens.
