Evelyn Arne, 84, of Le Mars, died Wednesday, June 1, 2005, at her home.

Evelyn Henrietta Numsen was born Feb. 17, 1921, on the family farm six miles south of Alcester, S.D., the daughter of Henry and Clara (Satter) Numsen. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. She attended Ludwig Country School near Mission Hill, S.D., and later attended and graduated from high school at Alcester, S.D. As a young woman, Evelyn worked for Barrymore Theater and the United States Post Office before her marriage to Lloyd Arne in 1946. Lloyd and Evelyn moved to Cherokee in 1954 and then to Le Mars in 1957. Evelyn worked for Wells' Dairy for 24 years and also in the lunchroom for Le Mars Community Schools for several years.

Evelyn was a longtime member of Grace Lutheran Church where she had taught Sunday school for many years and served on the altar guild. She also was active with the L.W.M.L. where she had held several offices that included zone treasurer for two years.

She was a steadfast woman of faith. Her love and generosity combined with her endless energy ministered powerfully for the Lord and to her family.

Evelyn is survived by her three children, Pastor Curtis and his wife, Jan Arne of Des Moines, Sallie and her husband, Joe Biggerstaff of Sioux City, and Candice and her husband, Pastor Mark Vander Tuig of Altoona; 11 grandchildren, Shannon Arne, Courtney Arne, Maren Smay, Kyan Arne, Kellie Trout, Jason Rozell, Kim Rozell, Laura Vander Tuig, Emily Vander Tuig, Laticia Biggerstaff, and Michael Biggerstaff; four great-grandchildren, Kailey Rozell, Justin Kuglin, Rileigh Arne, and Caden Arne; and several nieces, nephews and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Clara (Satter) Numsen; her husband, Lloyd Arne on Feb. 1, 2002; three brothers, Vylan, Delbert and Lloyd Numsen; and two sisters, LaVonne and Madeline Numsen.

Funeral services were 10:30 a.m. today (Monday) at Grace Lutheran Church in Le Mars with the Rev. Larry Fett officiating. Interment was in Resthaven Memory Gardens, rural Le Mars. Visitations with the family present was from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday, at the Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars with a 5 p.m. Prayer Service. Visitation continued Monday morning at the church from 9:30 a.m. until service time.

Pallbearers were Jason Rozell, Mark Vander Tuig, Shannon Arne, Joe Biggerstaff, Emily Vander Tuig, Kim Rozell and Kailey Rozell. Honorary pallbearers will be Laura Vander Tuig, Courtney Arne, Maren Smay and Kyan Arne.
