LE MARS, Iowa – Marie Sophie Christine Ahrendsen, 99, of LeMars died Saturday, November 3, 2001, at the Abbey in LeMars.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. John's Lutheran Church in LeMars with the Reverend Gary Landsness officiating. Burial will be in Resthaven Gardens in LeMars. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. Tuesday, with family present six to 8 p.m., and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will resume one hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday.

Mrs. Ahrendsen was born February 7, 1902, in Kreis Husum Joldelunda, Germany, the daughter of Christian and Catherine (Schmidt) Andresen. She received her basic education in Germany and worked as a domestic in various homes. She emigrated to the United States in March 1927. She married Carl George Ahrendsen on April 9, 1927, in LeMars. In 1939 they moved to a farm northwest of LeMars. They farmed there until Carl died on May 7, 1968. She resided on the farm until April 1989.

She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in LeMars and had been active in Circle for many years. She enjoyed traveling, baking, crocheting and needlework. She especially enjoyed her children and grandchildren.

Survivors include a daughter and her husband, Catherine and Lee Noteboom of Sheldon, Iowa; two sons and their wives, Jacob and Cleo and Alfred and Geraldine, all of LeMars; eight grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; two great-step grandchildren; a great great-step grandchildren; a sister in law, Vesta Criswell of LeMars; many nieces and nephews; and numerous half-brothers and sisters in Germany.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; two brothers; and a sister.
