Arnold J. Sitzmann

Arnold J. Sitzmann, 90, LeMars, Plymouth County native and retired farmer, died Monday, February 22, 1988, at Floyd Valley Hospital after a brief illness.

Funeral was at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in LeMars. Celebrant will be his son, Reverend Richard Sitzmann of Sioux City, with the pastor, Reverend Dale George, as homilist. Burial was in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Lincoln Township, under direction of the Luedtke-Feuerstein Funeral Home in LeMars.

He was born July 25, 1897, in Lincoln Township, Plymouth County, to Valentine and Anna Hieke Sitzmann. He was a lifelong county residents and grew up in Lincoln Township, where he attended rural schools, and then attended St. Joseph's parochial school in LeMars.

His marriage to Olive Strub took place June 16, 1920, at LeMars, St. Joseph's Church. He farmed for 33 years in Lincoln Township, moving to LeMars in 1953.

Survivors are his wife, Olive, LeMars; four daughters, Jean of LeMars; Mrs. Ken (Lois) Hardy, Sioux City; Mrs. Leo (Joyce) Ryan, of Troy, Michigan, and Mrs. John (Connie) Christiansen of Dallas; four sons, Donald, of Kingsley; Earl of LeMars; James of Hinton and Rev. Richard of Sioux City; 28 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Leo Sitzmann, and Valentine Sitzmann of Sioux City; five sisters, Mrs. Mary Roepke, Mrs. Oliva Hoffman and Mrs. John (Martha) Frerichs, all of Sioux City; Mrs. Al (Margaret) Fass of Marshfield, Wis., and Mrs. Lorette Medart of St. Louis, Mo.
