LE MARS NATIVE SISTER DIES

A mass of Christian Burial was concelebrated for Sister Mary Clarina Meis, S.C.C., 89, by Rev. Robert Calapp, cousin of the deceased on Nov. 10. She died Nov. 8,[1989]at St. Francis Hospital in Evanston, Ill.

Sister Mary Clarina, the former Mary Margaret Meis, daughter of Anton Meis and Clara Pletschette, was born in LeMars, on Dec. 1, 1899. She attended St. Joseph Elementary School in LeMars. On Sept. 17, 1921, she entered the postulancy of the Sisters of Christian Charity in Wilmette, Ill. She was admitted into the novitiate on June 29, 1922, pronounced her first vows on June 29, 1924, and made her final profession on Aug. 15, 1929.

Her apostolates included teaching, needlework and clothing in Wilmette, for over 20 years. Since 1969 she has been missioned at Sacred Heart Convent in Wilmette, where she spent the first 10 years sewing for the sisters.
