Franciscan Nun, Sister M. Paula, Dies in Dubuque
Funeral Mass for Sister Mary Paula Meis, O.S.F., (Anna Mary Meis), a member of the Sisters of St. Francis of the Holy Family for 47 years, was offered by Father Robert Spaight, chaplain, in Mount St. Francis chapel, November 25, at 11 a.m. Sister Mary Paula died at Mount St. Francis November 22, 1972.
Sister Mary Paula, daughter of Anton and Clara Pletschette Meis, was born on a farm near LeMars, November 8, 1903. She entered Mount St. Francis novitiate from St. Joseph’s Parish, LeMars, August 30, 1924, and made her first profession of vows June 22, 1927.
Sister taught primary grades for eighteen years in Dyersville; taught also in Cascade, Sioux City, St. Anthony’s Home, North Buena Vista, and Sibley’s catechetical school. In 1969 Sister retired to Mount St. Francis.
Surviving are two sisters: Mrs. Minnie Delperdang, LeMars and Sister Clarina, C.C. of Wilmette, Illinois.

Sister Mary Paula Meis, 69, of the Franciscan Sisters of the Holy Family, died Nov. 22, at Mt. St. Francis, Dubuque, which is the mother house. She was a LeMars native.
Wake services was held at Mt. St. Francis on Nov. 24 at 8 p.m. and the funeral mass was Nov. 25, at 11 a.m. at Mt. St. Francis with Rev. Robert Spaight, chaplain, as celebrant.
Interment was at the Mt. St. Francis cemetery.
Anna Mary Meis was born Nov. 8, 1903 on the farm two miles west of LeMars, the daughter of the late Anton and Clara Pletschette Meis.
