Dorothy I. Brown

Dorothy I. Brown, 80, of Akron, died Saturday, April 3, 1999, at the Akron City Convalescent Care Center following a lengthy illness.

Dorothy Tucker Brown was born April 13, 1918, in Akron, the daughter of W. P. and Clara (Frager) Tucker. She graduated from Akron High School in 1935. She then attended Western Union College in LeMars, and taught in rural schools near Akron. In August 1939, she married Arden Brown. They lived in Akron where she worked as a substitute teacher and later worked in the Brown family businesses.

She was a member of First Baptist Church of Akron, PEO, Audubon Society & Nature Conservancy, and Akron Friendship & Service Club.

Survivors include her husband; one daughter, Carol Brown of Corvallis, Ore.; two sons and their wives, Bob and Susan Brown of Akron, and Rich and Kristi Brown of Sioux City; two sisters, Ruby Brown and Virginia and her husband, Hugh Swift, all of Akron; two brothers, Robert and his wife, Harriet Tucker of Alamogordo, N.M., and Ellis Tucker of Akron; five grandchildren, Wendy, Bogard, Michael Chad, Courtney and Rachel Brown; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Everett and Emery; and sister Grace Brunkenberg.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church of Akron with the Rev. Fred Penner officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery in Akron.
