Ardie Hoyting

Ardie Hoyting, 94, of LeMars, died Sunday, May 18, 2003, at Floyd Valley Hospital in LeMars.

Arthelia Lucille Hoyting was born Oct. 14, 1908, in LeMars, the daughter of Albert and Anne (Pecks) Hoyting. She was baptized on Nov. 15, 1908, and confirmed in April 1923 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in LeMars by Rev. J. J. Vollmar. Ardie graduated from LeMars High School and later taught school in the rural areas near LeMars.

She also worked in LeMars at the Union Hotel and as a clerk at Marie’s Dress Shop. In addition to her work, Ardie cared for her parents and her two sisters when they became ill.

Ardie was an active, lifelong member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in LeMars. When she was no longer able to live alone, she moved to the Happy Siesta Health Care Center in Remsen in July 1998.

Survivors include her cousins, Gladys Kruse of Cedar Rapids, Judy Branz of Raleigh, N.C., and Izora Bowers of Bowersville, GA.; and her special neighbors, Clint and Michelle Leonard and their son, Cody, of Remsen.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and two sisters, Evelyn and Adeline.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. John’s Lutheran Church in LeMars. The Rev. Gary Landsness will officiate. Burial will follow at Memorial Cemetery in LeMars. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home of LeMars. There will also be one hour of visitation at the church prior to the funeral.

Memorials may be directed to St. John’s Lutheran Church and the Bremwood Children’s Home in Waverly, Iowa.
