Funeral for Hazel J. Benton, 82, Cedar Falls, a Plymouth County native, was held Oct. 26, 1985 at Garden View Chapel in Waterloo. Burial was in Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens, Cedar Falls, beside her husband who died in June, 1969.
Hazel Hawkins Benton died Thursday morning (Oct. 24, 1985) at Community Nursing Home in Clarksville, Iowa, where she had lived since 1978.
She was born Jan. 4, 1903, to G. W. and Hannah Hawkins near Sioux City in Plymouth County and moved in 1907 with her family to a farm southeast of Westfield. She graduated from Sunnyside High School in 1920 and taught school until her marriage to John Benton in August, 1933, at Adaville. She lived in Cedar Falls area until her health failed.
Survivors are her step son-in-law; three step-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; four nephews, Duane, Royal, Norris and Lorvan Hawkins; two nieces, Beverly Cheesman and Lainys Hansen; and a sister-in-law, Elva Hawkins. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Harry and George, her sister Lela Bride; and a nephew Dean Bride.
