TAUGHT IN PLYMOUTH COUNTY MANY YEARS

Mrs. Magdaline Kundert Ross, 73, of Hancock Township, a former school teacher in this county for 33 years, died Sunday night at her home on the Broken Kettle Road, after a long illness.

Born May 22, 1872, at Glaurs, Wis., she came to Iowa when a child with her parents who settled near Akron. She married Thomas Ross December 25, 1918, at Onawa, Iowa. The couple then moved to Hancock township where they have lived the last 27 years.

Mrs. Ross taught in the Plymouth county schools for more than 30 years and according to records she kept, had taught more than 1,100 pupils.

She was a member of Vesper chapter 61, Eastern Star, at Akron and the Sioux City White Shrine.

Surviving are the widower and a sister, Mrs. George X. Hickerson, of Los Angeles.

VETERAN TEACHER CALLED TO REWARD IN COUNTRY HOME

Mrs. M. Kundert Ross Early Day Resident Here Taught School 33 Years

Mrs. Thos. A. Ross a widely known and pioneer resident of western Plymouth county, passed away Sunday, July 15, 1945, at her home in Hancock township, north of Sioux City, after an extended illness, at the age of 73 years, 1 month, and 23 days.

Magdaline Kundert, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Adam Kundert, was born May 22, 1873, at Glaus, Wisconsin and came to Iowa when a child with her parents, who settled near Akron. She attended school here and later took up teaching as a vocation. She taught in rural schools 11 years, in the Grammar grade of the Akron public school for 16 years, in the public school at Kingsley, Ia., five years, and in the high school at Onawa, Ia., one year. According t records she had kept, she had taught more than 1100 pupils over a period of 33 years.

On December 25, 1918, Miss Kundert was married to Thomas A. Ross at Onawa, Ia., and they began housekeeping on a farm in Hancock township, Plymouth county, where they have lived for the past twenty-seven years. Both Mr. and Mrs. Ross have always maintained an active interest and participation in the P. T. A. and other educational interests. Many present and former Akron people will recall the years when they were pupils of Miss Kundert in the local schools, well realizing what an efficient and thoroough instructor she was.

Besides her husband she is survived by a sister, Mrs. George X. Hickerson; of Los Angeles, Cal., who have the sympathy of many friends in their bereavement.

Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Anderson funeral home in Sioux City, conducted by Rev. Jos. Steele. members of Vesper chapter, No. 61, Eastern Star, of Akron, and the Sioux City White Shrine, to which orders she belonged attended and participated in the final rites. Interment was in a cemetery at Le Mars.
