Funeral Saturday for Longtime Area Teacher
Lucille B. Ruedy, 81, longtime Merrill resident and educator, died unexpectedly Tuesday (April 19, 1988) at her home.
Funeral will be a 1 p.m. Saturday at Merrill United Methodist Church with Rev. Bob Davis officiating. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery at Merrill under the direction of the Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in LeMars.
Friends may call after 2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home with the family present from 7 to 8 p.m.
The former Lucille Shoemaker, she was born June 25, 1906, at Bronson to L. Gilmer and Blanche Haller Shoemaker. She taught school for 47 years in several rural Plymouth County schools and at Hinton and LeMars Community schools.
She married Allan G. Ruedy Nov. 24, 1934, at Sioux City. He died Nov. 2, 1984.
Mrs. Ruedy was a member of the Merrill United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women. She was a member of Royal Neighbors of America and the Merrill library past president, as well as senior citizen’s president.
Survivors are three daughters, Mrs. Dean (Janice) Bolte, Denver; Mrs. William (Nancy) Riley, Sioux City; Mrs. Jim (Barbara) Cosgrove of Merrill; four grandchildren; a brother, Louis Shoemaker, of Lawton; and a sister, Mrs. Don (Mae) Cameron, of Anaheim, Calif.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister.
