OBITUARY:

Mrs. Elizabeth A. Knapp, 92, Route 1, Hinton, died Monday (Sept. 26, 1988) at a Sioux City nursing home after a brief illness.

Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Michael’s Catholic Church at Sioux City with Rev. Jerome Cosgrove officiating. Burial will be in Logan Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Thursday with the rosary recited at 7:30 p.m. in Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.

Mrs. Knapp, the former Elizabeth A. Koenig, was born Oct. 19, 1895, at Lebanon, Mo., and came to the Sioux City area as a young child. She attended St. Boniface Grade School and graduated from St. Catherine’s Academy at Jackson, Neb., in 1914. She taught school at Willis, Neb., for two years and at Westfield for several years.

She married Fay W. Knapp Nov. 11, 1919, in the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church at Sioux City. The couple farmed most of their married life. He died March 11, 1960, at Sioux City.

Mrs. Knapp was a member of the Farm Bureau and St. Michael’s Catholic Church at Sioux City where she was active in church work.

Survivors are a son and daughter-in-law, Robert D. and Ida Lavon Knapp, of Hinton; a daughter, Mrs. Michael (Virginia) Thomas, of Tucson, Ariz.; a daughter-in-law, Betty Knapp, of Aurora, Ill.; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her son, Rex C. Knapp on Feb. 1, 1982.

A memorial has been established in her name for the school libraries of her great-grandchildren.
