Mrs. Dose Dies At Age 100
Mrs. Marie Dose, who resided for many years at Remsen and had marked her 100th birthday anniversary last February, died unexpectedly Thursday at a Marcus nursing home.
Born Feb. 17, 1858, at Keil, Germany, she came to this country and settled in eastern Iowa at the age of 18. She lived at Reinbeck, Iowa, where she married Carl Dose.
The couple moved to Remsen as homesteaders soon after their marriage and farmed southeast of there until 1907 when they moved to town.
When Mr. Dose died in 1941 at the age of 93, the couple had been married for 64 years.
Surviving are a son, John, of Marcus; nine grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.
Four of Mrs. Dose’s six children died in infancy, and a daughter Mrs. Henry Schorg died in 1940 at Remsen.
Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Saturday at Peace Lutheran church, Marcus. Rev. R. Christensen of Remsen officiated. Burial was in Trinity Lutheran cemetery at Marcus.
