Former Akron Girl Married Recently In Long Beach, California
The Akron Register Tribune reports the marriage of Miss Thelma Bohlken, daughter of Mrs. Mary Bohlken, 2333 Pasadena avenue Long Beach, Calif., to George W. Elder, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Elder, of Buffalo Mills, Pa., the nuptial service taking place in the Little Church of the Flowers, Forest Lawn Memorial-Park Glendale, Calif., the Rev. Francis E. Cook, pastor of the Epworth Methodist church officiating, at 6:30 p.m., Saturday, October 20, 1945. The bride was given in marriage by her brother, Darrell Bohlken. During the course of the service, John Lambert, as soloist, sang, “The Lord’s Prayer”, “Always” and “Because”.
The bride was charmingly attired in a suit of gold gabardine, with brown accessories, and her flowers were a testament arrangement of talisman roses, tulle and shower of ribbon. The maid of honor was Eileen Bohlken, sister of the bride, who wore a blue suit, with navy blue accessories, and corsage of pink gladioli. Lucille Bohlken, sister of the bride, was bridesmaid, and she wore a gray gabardine suit, with black accessories, and corsage of pink gladioli. Charles N. Williams was best man.
Following the ceremony, a reception was held in their honor in the home of the bride’s mother in Long Beach.
The bride grew to young womanhood in Akron and graduated from Akron High School, after which she attended State Teachers’ college at Wayne, Nebr. The past five years she taught school at Sergeant Bluff, Iowa. The groom, a graduate of Bedford High school, Bedford, Pa., served four and one-half years in the Army Air Forces, one and a half years with the 8th Air Force as engineer on a B-17. Previous to his discharge he was an instructor on B-29 planes. At present he is employed at the Williams Electric Supply Co. at Bedford, Pa., in which city he and his bride will be at home to friends after December 1.
