A son, Leon, was born to Carl and Ida Hansen Sanow in LeMars Oct. 3, 1918.
Leon was a very small baby weighing only two pounds at birth. His early years were spent in LeMars where his father was known as an iceman.
Then the Sanows lived in Union Township for ten years, while his father farmed and operated a threshing machine.
Leon was about fifteen years old when they returned to LeMars to make their home. He received his education in his home by the help of college students. Through the years he has spent time in four different hospitals.
For many years he sold pencils in LeMars and surrounding towns. He has made many friends. His hobbies are song writing and listening to music, especially country western singers. He also loves dogs.
Leon is a member of the Presbyterian United Church of Christ, having also attended the Union Township Presbyterian Church and the United Church of Christ. He shares in his love of the Lord by distributing Christian tracts and literature. He thanks God for his home at Brentwood and the good care he has received since he came in April 1974.
Leon celebrated his 56th birthday at the home of his sister, Adeline Penne. All of his six sisters were present as well as many members of their families. Mrs. Penne and her son, Kim, came to attend the October party at Brentwood.
