Sadie Cunningham was born Oct. 1, 1890, and spent her first eleven years on a farm southeast of LeMars.
Her parents were Mr. and Mrs. D. M. Cunningham. Sadie attended a rural school near her home in Henry Township until the family moved to LeMars. She completed grade school and graduated from LeMars High School.
After attending college at Morningside for two years, Sadie joined her family at Dallas, S.D., and taught school there one year. She then clerked in a store there and in 1914 was married to William Brunskill. They had an acreage on the west edge of LeMars where they enjoyed farm life as well as nearness to the city. Mr. Brunskill passed away in 1952.
Sadie had many interesting experiences traveling and participating in church and community organizations. She belongs to First Methodist church. She was a member of Friday Club for over 30 years, and is a 62 year member of Eastern Star in which she was also past matron.
A small group of friends joined her in observing her 84th birthday, Oct. 1, 1974. She has resided at Brentwood since 1968 where everyone enjoys hearing her play the piano. She is called upon to play for the daily hymn sings, many of the religious services, and other gatherings. When Mrs. Johnson’s accompanist had to make a last minute cancellation, there was no problem for Mrs. Brunskill is always willing to help out, even if it means playing her own birthday song!
