Walter Gottlieb Zimmerman passed away July 25, 1965 at his home in Le Mars, Iowa after a lengthy illness of three years. The funeral was held July 28, 1965 at the Mauer Funeral Chapel. Rev. David S. Hadley, pastor of the Orange City Gospel Church officiated. Interment was at the Stanton township cemetery. Mr. Zimmerman was a member of the Orange City Gospel Church.

Walter Gottlieb Zimmerman was born March 23, 1884 in Le Mars, Iowa. He was the son of George Washington and Louise Berner Zimmerman. Mr. Zimmerman resided with his parents in Le Mars six years until his parents purchased a farm in Plymouth township, southeast of Merrill. Walter recieved his education in the public schools. Farming was his occupation. He was very active in church and community affairs serving many years as a deacon for the Stanton Evangelical Church, also serving on the building committee for the new church erected in 1927 and 1928. He served as school director of Plymouth Township No. 4 school and was active in PTA.

On Feb. 3, 1909 Walter was united in marriage to Anna Lydia Lippke. To this union seven children were born: Lois Arvella (Mrs.Harold) Rees; Kenneth Walter Zimmerman; Roy Donald Zimmerman; Noble Harlan Zimmerman; Evelyn Anna Zimmerman; Carol Grace Zimmerman; and Pearl Elaine (Mrs. Loren) Smith.

In December 1946, Mr and Mrs. Zimmerman moved to Le Mars for their retiring years.
